Project Story

Located in the iconic Nichols Canyon of the Hollywood Hills, this extensive residential transformation updated a traditional French Chateau for the modern luxury market. Designing within this exclusive locale required strict adherence to the Mulholland Scenic Corridor Specific Plan and the rigorous mandates of the Hillside Construction Regulation (HCR) District. Our architectural strategy successfully navigated these compounding regulatory overlays, allowing us to maximize the estate's footprint while ensuring absolute code compliance.

Collaborating with a premier developer, the design simplifies the intricate ornamentation of the original structure into a clean, contemporary French Mansard aesthetic. We preserved the home’s grand front façade while executing a major expansion at the rear. The exterior was revitalized with crisp white stucco and minimalist black iron details, while the interior layout was re-engineered into a traditional yet fluid floor plan.

A dramatic stair entry foyer leads to distinct living and dining areas, culminating in a completely redivided wing of en suite bedrooms. In the primary suite, a wide, column-free opening with pocketing sliding doors dissolves the boundary to the backyard. Elegant wainscoting and crown molding honor the home's historic European roots, resulting in a bespoke design so compelling the estate sold mid-construction.
