The Traditional Shingle

Decades of fragmented alterations had stripped this Hollywood Hills property of its original California Ranch soul. Our task was to reclaim that lost architectural heritage without over-modernizing, creating a transitional and deeply family-oriented home near Laurel Canyon.

The entire site design hinges on a striking geographical fluke because the rear of the house sits on a direct axial alignment with the Hollywood Sign. To capitalize on this, we completely redesigned the landscape. We aligned the pool with the main living room axis and elevated the jacuzzi 18 inches above grade to create a perfect viewing perch. This outdoor sanctuary transitions into the home through massive multi-fold glass doors, opening up a newly unified great room and expansive island kitchen.

Bringing this authentic vision to life meant conquering two of the city's most restrictive building overlays, specifically the Hillside Construction Regulation District alongside the Mulholland Scenic Parkway Specific Plan. We managed these tight parameters seamlessly, wrapping the home in traditional shingle siding, detailed custom trimming, and refined hardscaping that restores the property's historic character with strict modern compliance.
