Project Story

Situated within a protected Pasadena landmark district, this 1920s craftsman home required an extensive exterior restoration to reclaim its compromised architectural value. Over nearly a century, the property had been stripped of the defining details that emblemize the historic Craftsman movement. Working closely with local preservation guidelines, we conducted exhaustive archival photo research to accurately reconstruct the home's original identity.

Every exterior element was meticulously re-engineered for absolute historical accuracy. We redesigned the wall framing and siding to achieve the exact, traditional taper found in 1920s architecture and integrated authentic grid-pattern attic venting on the front façade. A major focus of the project was rebuilding the true craftsman front porch, a quintessential element of the classic Americana lifestyle that had been unfortunately altered by previous owners. To ensure absolute period accuracy, we even cross-referenced historical paint catalogs to finish the exterior in authentic shades of craftsman green.

The city’s strict preservation standards extended to the smallest functional details of the exterior. We integrated custom copper gutters and downspouts designed to develop a natural green patina over time and blend seamlessly with the new color palette. After a rigorous year-long municipal review process, the completed restoration successfully brought this historic structure back to its original glory while securing full city approval.
