The Movie Set
Sierra Madre, CA
The Story
This project was a meticulous kitchen remodel for a historic Sierra Madre home, originally built in 1904 by the iconic architects Charles and Henry Greene. As a prime example of the Arts & Crafts movement, the house's original design and rustic charm heavily influenced our approach. The home's significance is widely recognized, and it was even featured in the film Oppenheimer, so it was essential that our work respected its legacy.
Our team focused on maintaining the home's authentic character while integrating a slightly modern finish. This required us to make careful, deliberate changes. We minimally altered the exterior by adding a new window and adjusting another, all while preserving the home’s original historical value.
The client also had the original Greene & Greene cabinets professionally restored. These beautifully preserved pieces were incorporated into the new design as freestanding cabinetry, which fit seamlessly within the new kitchen layout. The final result is a kitchen that honors its 120-year history while providing all the amenities of a contemporary living space. This project highlights our expertise in historic preservation and our ability to seamlessly blend classic craftsmanship with modern design.
